Earn points and miles

The right earning method depends on your everyday spending and travel goal. This hub helps you build a system before assessing individual cards, promotions or programs.

Three questions before you start

  1. What is your goal? A specific flight, greater flexibility or simply building a balance can lead to different decisions.
  2. Which expenses would happen anyway? Points do not justify extra or artificially accelerated purchases.
  3. Which rules can you reliably track? Fees, expiry, minimum spend and transfer rules belong in the total calculation.

Flexible points can keep several redemption paths open, but they are not automatically more valuable. Your accessible partners, actual availability and all cash charges determine the outcome.

Put earning methods in context

  • Everyday and partner programs: Use programs where you already shop and check the terms of each promotion.
  • Credit cards: Compare annual fees, acceptance, insurance and earning rates against how you will actually use the card.
  • Travel and frequent-flyer programs: Credit depends on fare, route and program rules; retain receipts until the activity posts correctly.
  • Limited-time promotions: Treat them as an addition, not the foundation of your strategy.

The verified offers page is the entry for time-sensitive information. When there is no current approved entry, compare cards by their regular cost and terms rather than waiting for a promotion.

The next sensible step is not necessarily an application. First classify your existing accounts in the program overview, or assess a card in the credit card hub.
